Summary
Volunteer opportunity!

The National Language Service Corps (NLSC) is America’s premier group of highly skilled language volunteers who connect, share, and grow through networking, training, and testing opportunities. A congressionally authorized DoD program, the NLSC taps its members to support Federal Government partners through translation, interpretation, instruction, and cultural advising. In addition to opportunities to use language for the good of all, the NLSC provides its members with many unique benefits. NLSC members have free access to a wide range of high-quality online language study and retention resources, as well as interesting professional events and seminars with outstanding opportunities to network with fellow members (11,000+ members and growing). Participating in the NLSC enhances members’ resumes by providing them with a professional membership, service experiences, training, and free Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) and Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) scores; taking the DLPT and OPI is a rare opportunity that NLSC members can take advantage of at no cost.

4. Validate your language skills. Validate your language skills with the Defense Language Proficiency Test or the Oral Proficiency Interview, two of the most widely recognized proficiency tests offered by the U.S. Government.
5. Enjoy interesting speakers and events. From language sustainment to emergency preparedness training, there’s always something new to learn and discuss.

NOTE FROM NSEP: NSEP cannot pre-approve positions for service credit, but award recipients with an outstanding service requirement to NSEP who become members of the National Language Service Corps (NLSC), which is a Department of Defense program, and who are activated to complete translation and interpretation work for the federal government through the NLSC may submit a Service Agreement Report (SAR) to request service credit under from NSEP for their service time. Note that the minimum number of hours our system can process is 40, so you must complete at least the equivalent of one week of full time volunteer work in the position before submitting your SAR.
