Duties
Summary
The incumbent will serve as an international specialist for the Middle Eastern region, working closely with foreign partners, the U.S. interagency and other DHS offices to advance DHS objectives and goals in the Middle East and Southwest Asia. With written and verbal briefings, the incumbent will support decision-makers’ engagement in the region through strategic analysis, collaborative planning with the DHS Operational Components (CBP, ICE, USCG, etc.), and policy recommendations.
Responsibilities
On behalf of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary, the incumbent will support the Office’s efforts to guide DHS international interactions with the Middle East and Southwest Asia to achieve DHS objectives, including expanded information sharing, coordinated law enforcement operations and investigations, and improved border (air, land, and maritime) security.



The incumbent takes a lead coordinating role in government-to-government bilateral and multilateral processes as well as with U.S. Embassies abroad, foreign Embassies in Washington, interagency partners, and DHS Components. The incumbent extends “homeland security” approaches to risk management through programs that enshrine the principles of co-responsibility and joint management of transatlantic trade, travel, and security.

• You must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

• Relocation Expenses WILL NOT be paid.

Qualifications
o Background in the Middle East or Africa or international studies, public policy, history, law, social science or related field. Experience working in the Middle East, or with Middle Eastern officials or organizations in the United States is a plus.

o Demonstrated interest in the regional political and security environment and the ability to assess, identify, and recommend policy options

o Experience articulating complex problems and developing creative solutions

o Excellent communication, research, writing, and computer skills

o Familiarity with DHS’s missions
