Duties
Summary
Serves as an entry-level Investigative Analyst. Major duties and responsibilities include
developing the knowledge, skills and abilities to analyze and report on criminals, criminal
conspiracies and criminal networks exploiting the customs and immigration laws of the United
States. As an entry-level analyst under the supervision of a higher-grade Criminal Analyst,
learns to apply all-source research, collections, analysis and reporting knowledge, skills and
abilities to assist higher-grade specialists. Developmental assignments in criminal analysis and intelligence work may be in support of a geographical and/or functional area, such as HQ
program area or special project/assignment.


Responsibilities
Responsible for learning and complying with the HSI Framework for Criminal Analysis and HSI
standards for organizing and reporting Criminal Analysis Work Product.

Learns HSI's standardized criminal analysis tradecraft including Framework products, methodologies, and structured analytical techniques.

Studies analytical tradecraft, best practices and existing products.

Supports other Criminal Analysts development of Framework products, threat assessments and intelligence reports.

You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1-year equivalent to the GS-04.

Education: 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree





You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess one of the following:

One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent.



Or



Education: 1 full year of graduate level education

or

superior academic achievement

Qualifications

HIRING AUTHORITY

The Department of Homeland Security will utilize the Schedule A (r) and/or NDAA’13 hiring authorities afforded to all NSEP award recipients with outstanding service requirements to make appointments to this position in the excepted service. NSEP award recipients who have already completed their service requirement to NSEP in full are not eligible to apply.
